In the modern world we live in, diversity is a very common theme, no matter whether you want it to be, or not. In my opinion diversity is a good thing. It is a part of life and what makes the world the way it is today. The text makes reference to major cities around the world being quite similar in such aspects as culture and language diversity. Arguably one of the most, or most, culturally diverse cities in the world; New York City, has many examples of how diverse it is. The city itself is broken into different sections where you can find Chinese, African-American, and Italian culture all overlapping. Over the course of time, it is possible for all of these cultures to blend together, thus creating the Global Village idea where a person can get a little bit of every culture with each excursion through the day.
The diversified world that people think of today is American culture. In essence, there is no such thing as American culture; because, it is the sum total of many different cultures blending together. Now this isn’t to say there aren’t any parts of America that aren’t more culturally influenced than others. Parts of New England still have the influence of Irish Catholics where Southern states exemplify heavy African-American and Cajun influence. All and all, the idea of a diversified world is quickly spreading. People in Japan are able to read the New York Times whenever they want while New Yorkers enjoy the convenience of Samsung cell phones. Eventually, I am able to see all the cultures of the world blending together. It may not happen in my lifetime, however it is an inevitable fact of life as we now know it.
